Knuckles Quest v0.3.1 Update

The v0.3.1 update for Knuckles Quest has arrived! This update was largely focused on polish and changes to improve the general play experience. With the respectable amount of attention that Knuckles Quest received during SAGE 2024 (over 4000 views and 700 downloads as of this writing!), I received plenty of feedback that I wanted to address before adding more content or major features. Here's what's different:
- Added hint system! These work similar to the hints in Sonic Adventure 2, where you can view monitors to receive information on where the emerald pieces are. The differences here are that each monitor is reusable, corresponds to a different emerald, and charges 5 rings per hint.
- Control changes
- Added dig move (control or east face button by default)
- Third attack in three-hit combo is different between Knuckles and Rouge
- Knuckles has an uppercut with extra height while Rouge gets a spin attack with extra speed/distance
- Tweaked handling
- Increased acceleration, deceleration, glide speed, and max running speed by 20%
- Decreased glide fall speed by 20%
- Decreased slope resistance by 25%
- Decreased player gravity by 16.7%
- Tweaked turn speed programming
- Can unlock doors without manually putting down key
- Can interact with keys and hints while attacking
- Improved camera
- Made camera center button realign Y axis
- Reduced mouse sensitivity for camera movement
- Added left/right turning of camera with buttons (Q/E and LB/RB by default)
- Default angle is slightly more zoomed out and lowest angle is even lower
- Made camera center button realign Y axis
- UI changes
- Changed Radar
- Image is emerald-shaped instead of circular
- Colors go blue-green-yellow-red instead of pink-blue-red
- Reduced detection radius
- Expanded graphics options
- Anti-aliasing can be toggled
- Shadow quality, resolution, and distance can be changed
- Texture quality and anisotropic filtering can be changed
- Options for 1800p resolutions and 120 fps available
- Added stage title card
- Added button prompts when near an interactable object
- Changed mouse select color for character select screen
- Added loading screen to title screen
- Changed credits images
- Removed SAGE 2024 logo from downloadable version
- Changed Radar
- Other tweaks and Bug fixes
- Respawning at beginning sets direction properly
- Camera inversions options are set properly on first playthrough
- FPS toggle option saves
- Capsules in boxes cannot be glided into
- Gliding into yellow springs can no longer cancel vertical speed
- Changed box physics
- Added dreadlock/wing animation while running
- Tweaked rising, walking, running, and gliding animations
- Tweaked level design & object placement, especially adding more rings
- Added emerald placements that require digging
Download the update now, or play it in your browser! (With all those graphics options, the experience between the two versions ought to be more even!)
Anyways, with all of those changes out of the way, the next update should hopefully be v0.4.0! Honestly, even I'm not entirely sure what it's gonna hold, but I will say that if things go according to plan, tell a friend once it comes out!
