Knuckles Quest v0.3.0 Update


In preparation for the upcoming Sonic Amateur Games Expo 2024, I've released a new demo for Knuckles Quest!

The main feature of this demo is that the three test levels have been removed in favor of a completely new custom zone. I call it Molder Forest, and it's a spooky-looking stage with haunted trees, graveyards, poisonous ponds, and facilties already being constructed by Eggman. What is he planning to do with this withered forest? I don’t know either to be honest, but it's your job to find the three pieces of the Master Emerald here. Besides the new stage, I've made plenty of other changes as listed below:

  • Updated UI
    • Changed fonts, changed appearance of buttons, added menu transitions
    • Tweaked options menu
      • Removed option to change resolution in WebGL
      • Added guidance text
      • Changed "gameplay" setting to "camera" (may change it back later)
    • Overhauled title screen
    • Added animations to ring counter
    • Added sound effect when pausing
    • Integrated Stage Select into Main Menu
    • Loading screen fades in
    • Added unique credits images for Knuckles and Rouge
  • Retooled ring system
    • Damage from enemies and hazards only reduces ring count by 5
    • Falling into pits reduces ring count by 10 (not applicable with current level)
    • Minimum of 3 rings when spawning/respawning
    • Ring count carries between stages (not applicable with single level)
    • Scattered rings have more weight and despawn faster
  • Various fixes and tweaks
    • Added music to main menu, stage, and credits
    • Added "interact" button for carryable objects (left mouse button or north face button by default)
    • Fixed glitch where camera would sometimes drift after detaching from wall
    • Fixed glitch where by pressing pause on the quit menu, the game unpauses but the menu doesn't disappear
    • Tweaked player attack hitboxes
      • Fixed issue where hitboxes don't rotate with character model
      • Slightly extended drill hitbox
    • Tweaked jumpball, climbing, drilling, and Knuckles idle animations
    • Added falling wing animation for Rouge
    • Added "pop" sound when ring/emerald emerges from enemy
    • Fixed control quirk where you briefly "grab" certain slopes while gliding into them
    • Reduced climb sound volume
    • Slightly increased climb speeds
    • Turning slowdown now depends on movement direction rather than input direction

Play it now in your browser or by downloading version 0.3.0! I personally recommend the latter.
