Knuckles Quest v0.2.0 Update


After a month and a half of cranking away and ruminating on the first wave of feedback, I've finished another update for Knuckles Quest! The changes include:

  • Updated Unity Editor to 2022.03.22f1
    • Should fix minor issues such as being unable to map controls to E key
  • Internally overhauled play control script -- should feel similar to old version, but with some modifications
    • Characters can now attack on the ground (shift or left face button by default)
    • Characters curl into a ball when jumping
    • Glide slightly carries vertical momentum when entered
    • Drill move halts horizontal momentom
    • Can no longer jump up steep slopes
    • Reduced hang time
  • Improved camera
    • Implemented fixed angles in certain areas
      • Can be enabled/disabled with left trigger/Z
    • Right trigger/C camera centering works by default
    • Looks at end goal upon collecting all emeralds
    • Stops upon death
  • Made improvements to enemy behavior
    • Revised hit detection
    • Changed defeat effect and behavior
  • Widened platforms in third level
  • Added spring and item capsule gimmicks
  • Minor aesthetic improvements
    • Deepened radar noise
    • Added visual effect to emerald collecting
    • Modified GOAL ring appearance
    • Fixed a visual bug involving turning after changing the camera
    • Tweaked animations (leaning into turns when running and gliding, Rouge's glide and climb)
    • Added sound effects to differentiate Rouge from Knuckes
    • Added visual and sound effects to drill move
    • Improved wall climbing sounds
    • Slight material and lighting tweaks

Download v0.2.0 and play it for yourself!

There may be another small patch or two for minor tweaks and fixes, but after that, I plan to finally make custom levels, which I'm definitely looking forward to!
